When Phil and I got together some 13 years ago the biggest thing we had in common was a love for travel, seeing the world and trying new foods. We feel so fortunate to be able to carry on exploring the globe with our 2 little monkeys in tow.

Now they don't always love the food but they honestly love the travelling, they get so excited about heading off to new lands! They are adventurous enough to try new foods too which is amazing. The rule we always stick to with food is that you should always try something, if you don't like it then you don't have to eat it again. Most of the time they end up enjoying it. Elsie in particular is a real lover of asian food.

We have travelled to a fair few places with the children now. European trips have been limited but include France, Canary Islands, Greece & Italy. We always tend to go long haul. Believe it or not it usually ends up the same price or cheaper. When looking at cost we would rather go further, to somewhere very culturally different from the UK. This doesn't mean there are not brilliant places to holiday in Europe, its just a personal choice. I also have this little voice in my head that says 'you can travel Europe when you are old and no longer able to handle long haul flights!' Ridiculous I know but that's how my little mind works.

Long haul destinations we have taken the children to include Thailand (a few times), Singapore, Mauritius, Florida, Sri Lanka, Vietnam & Dubai.

Now travelling is definitely different with kids. I am very much a lover of a backpack and going with the flow. I love just arriving somewhere and pulling out a lonely planet or heading to trip advisor to find accommodation. Or booking the first few nights then just seeing where it takes us. Thats definitely something that is harder with young kids. Don't get me wrong I also love a bit of luxury but have found I love that more now I have kids. Being able to arrive somewhere and do nothing, completely switching off from the chores of life back home.

Our next trip is to Thailand at Easter. We LOVE Aisa. The kids love Asia. The people are incredibly friendly and it is cheap!. I backpacked trough Thailand in my younger days and we have taken the kids to Koh Samui a few times. This time we are heading to Ko Lanta and Railay and I cannot wait!

I will probably end up writing a lot about our travels. About how I book, research, why I chose certain places etc so I will write more about our up coming trip to Thailand very soon.
